Awhina outright refused to watch her season of MAFS Australia and here’s the sad reason
She won’t be showing her son MAFS Australia
MAFS Australia bride Awhina Rutene has had an interesting time on the show. The experts matched her with Adrian Araouzou, a man-child who proved time and time again that he was only on season 12 for clout. He refused to write his wife a letter during confessions week, was called out for manipulating his wife, and was involved in a cheating scandal with Sierah Swepstone. I’m not even going to address his messy TikTok account because that requires its own essay.
With the release of the two-part reunion on Monday, MAFS is now over in Australia but Awhina has not been watching – here’s why.
Awhina says she had a ‘tumultuous journey’ on MAFS Australia
Awhina Rutene was one of the first brides we met on season 12 of Married at First Sight Australia. She was bubbly and full of energy, and yet, nothing she did seemed good enough for Adrian. After a “tumultuous” three months in the shoddy marriage, Awhina is not in a rush to relive it.
“If I’m being honest, I’m not sure how many episodes have aired, but I think I’ve only really watched four,” she told Yahoo. “I lived it. I know what’s happening and what’s going to happen.”
Though Awhina did want to watch her friends on the show, she noted how you can basically do that on TikTok without subjecting yourself to five episodes a week.
“I do feel guilty because I really want to watch all of my friends’ beautiful experiences, and I want to see the parts I missed out on, but I kind of feel like through TikTok and Instagram, you’re almost essentially watching it,” she added.

Awhina also noted how she wouldn’t be watching with her son as it was quite a difficult journey and she doesn’t want her son to see the effect it had on her.
“It’s really beautiful when you get to watch it in a group dynamic, but I do struggle to find time to watch it at home,” Awhina said. “I’m not going to watch it with my son. I do remember it was quite a tumultuous journey for me; there are moments where I am crying and I am sad, and I don’t really want to have that on television around my child.”
The experiment had a physical effect on her body
This is not the first time Awhina has spoken about her disastrous marriage to Adrian, earlier telling Yahoo that the experiment wreaked havoc on her body.
She said, “I gained 8kg in the experiment, so none of my clothes fit. I actually gained 6kg in the first six weeks, it was like a kilo a week in the first six weeks.
“When we went to the publicity day, I didn’t fit into my wedding dress – and my wedding dress was loose on my wedding day. So they had to pin it up at the back.
“I’d been on fight or flight mode almost every day. It was a chaotic, arguing situation. My face had blown up drastically, I can’t even tell you. When I got home, my son said to me, ‘You look different, mummy. ’ That’s how much inflammation there was.”
