Jono finally breaks his silence and says he tried to warn ex Lauren off MAFS Australia 2025

Lauren dated 2024 groom Jono before the show

In case you missed it, current MAFS Australia bride Lauren Hall used to date Jono McCullough, who was a groom in the 2024 series. He’s now spoken out about his ex going on the show after him, and said he tried to warn her off it. Yikes.

Jono was a controversial part of the show last year. He was matched with Lauren Dunn, but theirs was definitely not one made in heaven. They clashed constantly, before he was involved in a huge couple swap. He then got with Ellie Dix, and the couple are still together now. But prior to being on the show, he dated Lauren Hall – who is part of the most recent lineup.

Lauren and Jono reportedly dated for three months, before breaking things off in January 2023. They had been friends for over a decade, but stepped things up to be more than just friends after things “fizzled up” between them.

Now, Jono has spoken out and said he was aware his ex was going to be part of the show. Plus, he went as far as even trying to get her to reconsider taking part. Speaking to Sky News Australia, Jono said he told Lauren’s friends he didn’t think it was wise for her to be a bride, as he thought she would get misunderstood on the show.

“When I heard she was going on the show, a friend of hers reached out and told me, and I was like, are you sure she wants to do this? Because I know what she’s like,” he said. “She says exactly what she’s thinking. She doesn’t know filter.

“She knows what she wants, and she’s just like, ‘this is what I want, this is what I think.’ And that doesn’t, that’s not conducive to a good time on MAFS. I don’t know if it’s going to end well.”

He was then asked whether Lauren was receptive to his warnings, and Jono said she “wouldn’t have probably taken much feed off what I said”.

MAFS Australia bosses are said to have been fully aware of the relationship between Lauren and Jono. However, they hoped it would never get found out. “Production was hoping to quietly sweep it under the rug, but word got around that she was appearing on the show and they knew each other,” a source told MailOnline.
