His shocking confession and all other details found in notebook belonging to Brian Laundrie
Eight pages were released by a lawyer
With the release of American Murder: Gabby Petito, the case is very much being spoken about again. The series covers the disappearance of Gabby, and how it became clear her partner Brian had killed her, and then taken his own life. The most crucial piece of evidence was a notebook found belonging to Brian Laundrie, which detailed his confession.
Brian and his fiancée Gabby had been on a road trip together across the US. The trip was planned to last for four months, beginning in July 2021. But, Gabby Petito disappeared in August. Her family reported her as missing in September, after having not heard from her in weeks. Gabby was discovered dead on September 19th. It’s believed Brian Laundrie had strangled her around the date of August 28th.

A confession to the murder of Gabby Petito was found in Brian Laundrie’s notebook
After Gabby’s death, Brian fled and a huge manhunt was launched. A month later he was found dead, and a suicide note claimed he had taken Gabby’s life, too.
“I don’t know the extent of Gabby’s ingerys [sic] only that she was in extreme pain,” Brian wrote. “I ended her life, I thought it was merciful, that it is what she wanted, but I see now all the mistakes I made. I panicked. I was in shock. But from the moment I decided, took away her pain, I knew I couldn’t go on without her.”

In 2022, eight pages of the notebook belonging to Brian Laundrie were published by a lawyer. According to CNN, the Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino said he released the notebook pages after a meeting with the FBI and an attorney for Gabby Petito’s family. In this meeting they collected the personal belongings of both Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie.
In the notebook, Brian reportedly wrote: “I’m sorry to everyone this will affect. Gabby was the love of my life but I know adored by many. I’m so very sorry to her family, because I love them.” On another page, he wrote about Gabby being injured and trying to help her. This was where his confession was.
On the last page released, Laundrie wrote that he had taken his life. The final entry added he had chosen to do so in the creek “in the hopes that annimals [sic] may tear me apart. That it may make some of her family happy.” The final sentence read: “Please pick up all of my things. Gabby hated people who litter.”
