The chilling text messages Brian Laundrie sent just days after killing Gabby Petito
He texted a friend describing his trip with Gabby as ‘once in a lifetime’
Chilling text messages Brian Laundrie sent just days after he killed Gabby Petito have been revealed. The case is back being examined, this time in American Murder: Gabby Petito on Netflix.
Brian and his fiancée Gabby had been on a road trip together across the US. The trip was planned to last for four months, beginning in July 2021. But, Gabby Petito disappeared in August.
Her family reported her as missing in September, after having not heard from her in weeks. Gabby was discovered on September 19th. It’s believed Brian Laundrie had strangled her around the date of August 28th.
Days after her shocking death, Brian sent a number of shocking texts to a friend describing the “fun” he and Gabby had, despite having killed her. Shortly after this, Brian fled and a huge manhunt was launched. A month later he was found dead, and a suicide note claimed he had taken Gabby’s life, too.

‘Once in a lifetime’
Before his death, Brian Laundrie had sent a bunch of messages to a friend, describing his trip with Gabby. They are reported to have been sent in early September, when she was already dead.
“Trip was good,” he texted a friend called Ben. He also said: “Gab and I had fun. Tired now, gonna sleep for a week.”
Gabby was an aspiring travel influencer, and in his messages Brian also noted they had a “lot of content” for their joint YouTube channel. He called their trip together “once in a lifetime”.

It was also claimed Brian had sent texts to the parents of Gabby Petito, using her phone and pretending to be her. In a lawsuit it was alleged he messaged “back and forth between his cell phone and Gabrielle Petito’s cell phone in an effort to hide the fact she was deceased.” In one, it was claimed he texted Gabby’s mother Nichole Schmidt to say she hadn’t been in touch due to a lack of signal.
The note found next to Brian when he was found dead said: “I ended her life. I thought it was merciful, that it is what she wanted, but I see now all the mistakes I made. I panicked.” It added: “I was in shock.”
