All the Islanders who mysteriously quit the villa mid-series and their reasons why

There have been plenty of dramatic firepit gatherings

In most seasons of Love Island now there has been a cast member who has decided to quit the villa during the show. From recent years there has almost always been one swift exit, and sometimes even more.

But why did they all decide to leave the show and head back home? From protecting their mental health, to following the hearts – here is a rundown of every single Love Island cast member who decided to quit the villa, and the reasons they gave for leaving.

Zara Holland – 2016

The first person to ever quit Love Island was Zara Holland, in series two. Zara sadly left the 2016 villa after finding out that her mum had been taken ill.

In a statement, she said: “I’m so sad to leave the villa but it’s important for me to get home and spend time with my mum while she gets better. I’ve had the time of my life on Love Island and would like to thank all of my fellow Islanders and the production team for all their support.”

Rykard Jenkins – 2016

Rykard’s series two journey was turbulent to say the least. He was coupled up with Rachel, and they seemed happy, until Rachel was dumped. Rykard spectacularly announced he was leaving with Rachel, before Caroline Flack told Rachel she thought the public might have voted her off because Rykard had slept with Olivia Buckland (now Olivia Bowen). Cinema.

Samira Mighty – 2018

via ITV

Samira quit the cast of Love Island 2018. She left for a very wholesome reason, following her heart when her partner Frankie was dumped. Less than a month later, she dumped him following a series of cheating claims. Yikes.

Georgia Steel and Sam Bird – 2018

via ITV

Georgia and Sam created one of the most dramatic Love Island moments in history when they quit together. The pair were given an ultimatum, and told they weren’t allowed to couple up. With that, they chose love and decided to quit the villa together. That wasn’t before Georgia had a meltdown in the Beach Club, obviously.

Niall Aslam – 2018

Niall was only in the 2018 villa for a few days before announcing he was leaving. On Instagram afterwards, he said: “For far too long I have suffered in silence and not acknowledged a massive fact about my life which going into the villa has led me to finally realise and accept.

“When I was a young child I was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a fact that until this post has never shared outside of my close family. Growing up was extremely difficult for me and I often felt out of place. I always felt that people didn’t understand me, yet I was afraid to reveal my true scales as I did not want the label or stigma that was attached to it.”

Amy Hart – 2019

via ITV

Not a day goes by where I don’t thank my lucky stars that Amy realised her self-worth, ditched Love Island and now has her happily ever after.

Amy Hart left the Love Island 2019 villa to prioritise her mental health. After Casa Amor, she found out Curtis Pritchard – who was officially her boyfriend – had his head turned. As we all know too well, she had planned to return to the villa and tell him she was in love with him.

Ollie Williams – 2020

via ITV

There was a lot of controversy surrounding Ollie Williams’ untimely exit from the Love Island 2020 villa. He arrived on day one and on day three, said he was leaving because he was still in love with his ex. But, he decided to leave the villa *just* as pictures of him posing with hunted animals emerged, and fans called for him to be banned from entering the show.

Liberty Poole and Jake Cornish – 2021

Liberty and Jake were together from day one of Love Island 2021, and looked like they were set to win it. However, just days before the final the pair split and decided it was best to leave the villa, and give the other couples who were still together a fair shot at winning. How noble!

Liam Llewellyn – 2022

via ITV

Liam’s exit was all very dramatic. When it was announced he had left the Love Island 2022 villa, it was reported he quit for personal reasons after a “life-changing” revelation. He later announced to his fellow Islanders that he hadn’t been feeling himself, so had made the decision to go home.

Jacques O’Neill – 2022

Jacques also quit the Love Island 2022 villa. This announcement was made by ITV. “Jacques has made the decision to leave the villa. He will explain his reasons to the Islanders during tonight’s episode,” it was said. “We fully support his decision and look forward to seeing what’s next for Jacques.”

His exit came just as he’d had a huge bust up with Adam Collard. As he made the decision to leave, Jacques told fellow Islander Luca Bish he’d “rather get away from things before I get hurt.” He told Paige he couldn’t be the best version of himself in the villa, and added: “You mean so much to me, you know that. I’ve been trying to put a brave face on but things are getting to me.”

Jake Cornish – All Stars 2024

via ITV

Jake has appeared on Love Island twice, and quit the villa both times. He returned for the first series of All Stars, and upon finding out his ex Liberty was also there, walked. He left just three days into the show. The public brutally coupled him up with ex Liberty, which he didn’t take too well to.

Uma Jammeh – 2024

via ITV

Uma decided to quit the 2024 villa when her partner Wil was dumped from the island. It was looking shaky for the couple after Casa Amor, when it was revealed to Uma that Wil had been cracking on with girls whilst she was away. But, they stayed loyal in the recoupling and looked on better terms.

However, bombshell Reuben then took Uma on a date, and in the next recoupling chose to steal her. Wil was then single, and therefore dumped. Uma told her fellow Islanders she was going to leave with him. They’re still together now!

Scott Thomas – All Stars 2025

via ITV

Scott left the All Stars 2025 villa. He said he’d struggled to progress in his connection with Tina Stinnes, and following a bust-up in the villa with Elma over this, he walked. He told the Islanders it had become too much for him, and his best option was to go home.

Ron Hall – All Stars 2025

Islanders who quit Love Island and why

via ITV

Ron became the second Islander to quit Love Island All Stars 2025. Just like Scott, he said he’d struggled to make a connection. Ron was coupled up with Danielle Sellers, but “grew tired” of forcing connections. He said he didn’t think it was likely he’d find a genuine relationship in the villa. “My time is done,” he told his fellow Islanders.
