
Students see armed police swarm Brownlow Hill as man ‘spotted with a gun’ near LJMU campus
Six arrests were made at the scene near the School of Art and Design this afternoon
Six arrests were made outside of Liverpool John Moores University this afternoon following an incident involving a man with a handgun.
Armed officers from Merseyside Police were seen swarming the scene on Brownlow Hill at around 2.55pm.
Five men and one woman have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and remain in police custody, awaiting questioning. The firearms team now have been stood down.

Eyewitness students from Liverpool John Moores University have shared video content online depicting groups of people gathered outside the School of Art and Design. TikTok videos posted this afternoon, Monday 27th January, show a large police cordon around the campus location.
Officers can be seen attending the scene, with police tape closing off the entrance to the building, with six arrests were made outside of Liverpool John Moores University campus after the Liverpool ECHO confirmed that a man was “spotted with a handgun” in the area around the School of Art and Design Building. Police also appeared to be making enquiries in an alleyway behind a nearby row of houses.
A large amount of commotion from students can be heard in the videos.

According to the Liverpool ECHO, a section of Brownlow Hill at the junction of Great Newton Street was closed. Armed police were spotted at the scene as enquiries were being made in an alleyway close to the area.
