Huge easter egg in Squid Game 2 which exposes where the red guards are recruited from

It was hiding in plain sight!

Squid Game 2 is filled to the brim with easter eggs, plot holes and editing errors, all of which make for a more entertaining watch. We already had enough to digest with the chaos of 456 new characters and the surprise of the Front Man getting his hands dirty, but there’s a lot more to uncover. It seems as though every little set detail in Squid Game 2 is some kind of reference, foreshadow or easter egg. However, there was one glaringly obvious clue that was staring us right in the face in the first few episodes of season two. It might just give us the answers as to where all the Squid Game 2 red guards are recruited from, and it actually makes sense.

The evidence is sitting in plain sight in episode two and is best seen in the scene where the young girl in the strawberry hat is in the ambulance. Her father, a soon-to-be Player 246, is running towards the van and No-eul is watching from afar. Take a look at the sign in the top left corner of the screen.

The image is very blurry, but it’s obvious that there’s a cartoon squid on top of the building.

That’s not even the worst part! If you don’t speak Korean, you might not have clocked what the writing says next to the cartoon squid either. The writing looks eerily similar to one you might recognise already.

That’s right, the sign literally says “Squid Game.” The couldn’t have made this easter egg more obvious if they tried.

Does that mean the guards are recruited in the theme park?

It could well mean that this is the place where some of the guards are recruited. It would make sense, given that Shooter 011, No-eul is a worker there. It’s also filled with people struggling to make a living and working a job that makes them all so unhappy, so the perfect place to recruit a guard. The theory definitely checks out, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it turned out to be true.
