Cooper Koch finally reveals if he wore a prosthetic for *that* shower scene in Monsters

The answers we’ve all been waiting for

People have long been wondering if actor Cooper Koch was wearing a prosthetic in a nude shower scene in Monsters on Netflix, where he played Erik Menendez. Finally, in an interview, he’s told the world.

The scene in question came in episode three of the show, just after the two brothers had been arrested over the murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez. Whilst awaiting trial, Erik was shown as making a friend called Tony, and the two men headed to the shower together, when other inmates were finished.

The scene in the shower was quite intimate, with Tony and Erik staring at each other as they washed. It’s not clear if this scene was at all based on a true story, but the thing people seem to be wondering the most is if actor Cooper Koch was wearing a prosthetic, as he appeared in the scene completely naked.

Did Cooper Koch wear a prosthetic for the Erik Menendez shower scene in Monsters on Netflix?

Speaking on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, Cooper revealed what we saw in the scene was completely him, no prosthetic. “Just to say, mine is not a prosthetic,” he said. Andy then joked he is “blessed” to which Cooper replied: “Well… hung.”

We probably should have known it was going to be all Cooper, as the actor has previously spoken about being completely comfortable going nude in roles, and having done it plenty of times before.

In 2022, Cooper starred in the horror film Swallowed, where there was another full-frontal nude scene with him. At the time, he was asked by The Queer Review if he had any reservations in doing nude scenes. “My mother had some reservations,” he said. He then explained that in that film, the nudity wasn’t “sexualised” or “flashy nudity used to garner attention” and was instead “part of the story” which made him more comfortable with it.

Cooper went on to explain he’s had plenty of experience with nude scenes in the past, and added: “I did Hair in college, where we all got naked on stage, and I did an art installation with a director where I was naked. So I’ve had some experience with nudity as a performer before and it’s always been done really respectfully and artistically. I was definitely still a little nervous and apprehensive about it, but I think anyone would be that way. Ultimately though, it was great and I was super okay with it.”

Of course, Monsters on Netflix is a very different storyline – but arguably the nude scene is still important for viewers to understand Erik, and how he was feeling in prison.
