These are all the major differences between Netflix’s Sex/Life and the book it’s based on
The plots are so wild
Season two of Sex/Life is now on Netflix and it continues to follow Billie who is craving the wild sexual experiences she once had before her happy family life. To many viewers surprise, the Netflix series is actually based on a book.
44 Chapters About 4 Men by B. B. Easton is an autobiography about a woman’s secret journal which completely changes her marriage. The memoir inspired Sex/Life on Netflix, but there are some pretty big differences between the book and the series.
In the book, the author wanted her husband to read the journal
B. B. Easton began writing in the journal to spice up her married life after the birth of her second child as she was craving the excitement she once had in her life. She began writing a journal and fantasized about sexual experiences she had with her ex-boyfriends before she met her husband.
She would intentionally leave the journal near her laptop, knowing her husband would read it. Whenever he did read the journal, her husband would organise something exciting to fulfil her desires.
This has been slightly tweaked in the series, as in Sex/Life, Billie didn’t want her husband to read the journal. Billie’s husband reads the book by accident and is shocked about it. This is a big change to the book as the author left the journal on purpose for her husband to find.
Billie only writes about one ex-boyfriend in Sex/Life, but in the book there are three

Another difference between 44 Chapters About 4 Men and Sex/Life is the number of ex-boyfriends that are spoken about. In the book, the author writes about the wild sexual experiences she had with three of her ex-boyfriends and her husband, but in the series there is only one. In the book, the author writes about three ex-partners, “a sadistic tattoo artist, a punk rock parolee and a heavy metal bass player.”
In the show, Billie only writes about Brad, a man she had insane chemistry with but ended up leaving her on multiple occasions.
Unlike Billie, the author realises she doesn’t want to manipulate her husband anymore
In Sex/Life, Billie has sex with her ex-boyfriend whilst still being married as a way to get more excitement. However, in the book, B. B. Easton decides she doesn’t want to change her husband in any way and embraces her life as it is.
The first few episodes are mainly based on the book
Following the success of 44 Chapters About 4 Men, B. B. Easton continues the story in three more books, Skin, Speed and Star, which are all based on one of her three ex-boyfriends. Her first book is the most successful and that is the one the series is based on the most.
