So this is where *that* winking woman meme taking over Twitter is from

The latest meme taking over Twitter is of a woman winking and people are using it to tweet about moments we all know are open secrets, such as telling your computer you’ll update it tomorrow or agreeing that you’ve read the lengthy terms and conditions.

The meme actually comes from the TV show WandaVision and features Agnes Harkness played by Kathryn Hahn. Though it was originally just used by the WandaVision fandom, everyone on Twitter seems to be adopting it.

And this is everything you need to know about the winking woman meme:

Where did the winking woman meme come from?

The picture of the winking woman originates from the new Marvel TV show WandaVision. Kathryn Hahn plays Agnes Harkness who is seen in the trailer winking and then the full clip of her winking appears in the third episode of the series.

The trailer has been viewed over 1o million times since it first aired in December last year, which is a lot of time for meme potential.

And it has been used for memes since the clip first came out but it only really went massive in the last week. According to Know Your Meme one of the biggest viral tweets to feature the image was posted on 23rd February when someone used it to react to the show The Bachelor.

Since then it’s been all over Twitter and people have been using it as part of other memes about Agnes and giving it the hashtag of #agnestheneighbour.

Where do I recognise Kathryn Hahn from?

Even if you don’t watch WandaVision you will definitely recognise Kathryn who is the winking woman and there’s good reason for that – she’s literally been in everything.

Kathryn’s first major role was in How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Since then she’s appeared in a number of TV shows and movies including Girls, We’re The Millers, Parks and Recreation, I Love Dick and Central Park.

What is the meme used for?

The meme has been so successful because it’s easily used for accompanying well known lies we tell ourselves or other people such as “me telling myself I’ll go to bed early tonight”.
