Warwickshire police were called to Camberwell Terrace on Friday

A man has been arrested after a bomb squad surrounded a block of flats in Leamington Spa.

On Friday 14th April, officers from the Warwickshire Police and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal were called to Camberwell Terrace.

This came after a 999 call was made to police regarding the welfare of a man living there, CoventryLive reports.

A cordon was erected and the area was sectioned off by police. However, this has now been removed.

A man in his 30s has now been taken into police custody.

There was a heightened police presence on Camberwell Terrace on Saturday 15th April, according to Detective Inspector Chris Cook from the Warwickshire Police.

Police asked the public to avoid the area while investigations were underway.

A spokesman for Warwickshire Police said on Saturday: “Shortly after 10am yesterday morning (Friday, April 14) officers responded to a concern for welfare for a man at an address on Camberwell Terrace, Leamington.

“As a precaution, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EOD) also attended and a cordon was in place while enquiries were carried out however this has since been removed. A man in his 30s was arrested and remains in police custody at this time.”

Detective Inspector Cook said: “This was a concerning incident and I want to reassure the local community that a full investigation is underway. The public can expect to see a heightened police presence in the area while officers and colleagues from EOD remain on Camberwell Terrace on Saturday (April 15). Where possible, please avoid the area to allow officers to continue to conduct their enquiries.”
