Strike demonstrations finally happened on campus today

They even had flares

Today has seen large picket lines and mass protests against Universities UK, on Warwick campus.

The protests consisted of both academic staff and students alike in support of the UCU strike action.

The demonstration began in a mass crowd near the bus interchange at one of the main picket lines on campus, with speakers including Hope Worsdale, SU president, leading chants and speeches to get participants riled up in the cold weather.

After finishing the speeches, the protestors began a march around campus, complete with megaphones and even flares to add to the atmosphere.

Chants included: "No cuts, no fees, no corporate universities" and "5, 6, 7, 8, 9, never cross the picket line."

With the strike in full swing, we have so far seen very little of this kind of activity, with mainly groups of students performing smaller, less active protests and marches.

However, it seems, on the coldest day yet, the real action has begun.
