BREAKING: Police are investigating potential unexploded bomb near Sussex Uni

The unexploded bomb has been found in Stanmer Park

Brighton and Hove police have responded to a report of a potential unexploded mortar shell in Stanmer Park, near the Sussex university campus.

The incident took place around 2pm this afternoon and the police have closed off a section of the park.

A 100m cordon has been placed as a safety precaution and the bomb disposal team have been informed and will soon be at the scene.

A University of Sussex student has commented on the situation. They said: ”I was just sitting in my kitchen and then saw a police van drive up the hill and then in the next few minutes, I saw three more police vans go up the hill. I just walked up the hill and saw the area cordoned off and spoke to the policeman who told me that they had found an unexploded bomb.”
