A 19 year old was left quadriplegic after a serious rugby injury – and now the time has come for his rehabilitation.

Connor Hughes severely injured his neck in the first rugby match of the season, and after receiving reconstructive surgery to his spine for the damage to his C5 and C6 vertebrae, he has bravely started the rehabilitation journey.

Connor’s friends and family are fundraising to get him to Project Walk, a rehabilitation centre in America, so Connor can move forward with his life and take on new challenges.

The Stirling Mens Rugby Team as well as the Union have been rallying around to actively raise support and funds to help Connor on what is being known as Connor’s Journey.

“Stand Tall” bands are now being sold for £2 each in support of the rehabilitation process.

The Rugby Club have gone above and beyond in the name of getting Connor the treatment he deserves

Tom Ritchie, Vice President of the Stirling University Mens Rugby Club, said: “The rugby club has tried to rally round Connor as much as possible.

“It’s vital we do as much as we can to assist him and his family.

“We are currently fundraising to help Connor go to San Diego to receive top class rehab treatment at Project Walk.”

He was initially taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee after receiving emergency treatment on the field before being transferred to the Queen Elizabeth National Spinal Unit at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.

The rugby team as well as the Union are selling “Connor’s Journey” wristbands around the University, so get buying to support this worthy cause.

You can get involved in helping Connor by checking out the Connor’s Journey website and following his journey on Facebook.
