Study Money: the UEA student’s app that will help you save your cash

Accounting student Nicholas Rogers has produced an app that will work out a budget for your term

A thrifty accounting student and aspiring Steve Jobs has launched an app aimed at helping students manage their money.

Nicholas Rogers has produced ‘Study Money‘, an app that lets students keep track of their weekly budgets – particularly useful ahead of the new term.

The UEA student raised over $2,000 for the app through crowdfunding site Sellanapp.com.

Nicholas said: “I kept hearing stories from friends and my brother about how difficult they found it to stay out of their overdrafts at University, as they received a large loan at the start of term.

“I came up with the app idea when I was using a spreadsheet on my phone to manage my money. This was often very slow and difficult to use, so I thought a dedicated app would be perfect.”

Nicholas received investment from 19 different people and the app was downloaded 400 times in the first month.

The app calculates a weekly budget based on a student’s spending habits over a term.

Amanda Williams, lecturer in accounting at UEA, said: “I’m really impressed with the app which Nicholas has developed. It is great to see someone thinking about how to make it easier for students to manage their finances.

“Even more admirable is the entrepreneurial spirit that Nicholas has demonstrated in raising the finance and organising the development of this app.”
