Battle of the Bars Day 2: The LCR

Where’s the one place in Norwich you can dress as an elephant with wings and still pull? It’s UEA’s very own LCR.

If we’re talking Tuesday’s, the university’s own student club venue is the place to be. Clubs in town can often be quiet, whilst UEA’s campus is swarmed with students in elaborate fancy dress.

Our LCR faced much scrutiny last year, with Facebook filled with complaints of bad music and poor atmosphere. But it seems the LCR has pulled up its DayGlow socks and is determined to keep up with the ever growing club scene in the city.

Making outfits for Tuesday LCR is half the fun. I am personally on a mission to go in the most unsexy costumes possible for my last year of uni. Yes, I will be the girl wearing a cardboard box, proudly dressed as a bus.

Returners may remember the dwindling crowds of last year’s LCR, but it seems attendance is on the up. A new scheme which allows clubs to sell LCR weekday tickets and gain a percentage of the profit for their club has made campus a great place for sport or society socials.

With a non-themed night at the weekend, you can still attend the LCR and not dress like a giant panda. This Saturday was certainly a busy one.

Although large crowds make for a better atmosphere, the queue for drinks is worse than ever. On the plus side, drinks are always cheap so you can buy two at once and walk around with one in each hand, like a really classy girl.

Raving away

Although music has improved, the LCR can’t seem to resist the late night One Direction overload; it’s usually my signal to call it a night.

Most importantly, NEVER wear flip flops to the LCR. They make it impossible to walk on a floor that is somehow sticky from the moment the doors open.

Other than that, I’d say our LCR is only as good as we make it. Let’s give it a chance this year.
