Why are you whinging about your hangover?

‘I always get needy hungover, I need sympathy’

In this treacherous world of alcohol induced pain and suffering, there are two types of people. The first is the humble, hungover casualty who embraces the consequences of their self-induced agony with modesty, courage and acceptance.

The second is a new species of broadcasters who ease their pain by telling everyone they know how hard they went last night. Disguised as flat mates, course mates and even our closest friends, their cries for bottles of water and hangover food can be seen internationally on their Facebook.

We asked you lot what annoys you more: your own hangover or reading about everyone else’s.

Emily, second year Criminology and Forensic Science

“It’s pretty irritating when people act like they’re the only person in the world with a hangover.”

Kelly, second year Childhood and Early Years Study

“I don’t see the point in it really. I can barely function the next morning.”

Benji Spears, third year Computer Science

“Ha yeah, I’m probably guilty of that. I always get needy hangover, I need sympathy.”

Adam, Microbiology MA

“It’s pretty annoying, especially when you haven’t been out the night before and you’re just seeing that everyone else has.”

Raja, third year Nursing Studies

“I just can’t believe the amount people go out. But to be honest I’m sure I would have done it too if I had more time in first year.”

Cherry, third year Mass Communications and Business Studies

“It bugs me but so does loads of stuff online, so it’s pretty easy to ignore.”

Romeo, second year Marketing and Business Management

“I guess it’s only annoying because it’s a consequence. I can imagine they knew they’d have a hangover after a night out.”

Gilbert, second year International Business Management

“I’ve probably done it a few times, it’s hard not to. It’s a bit annoying to see every week though.”

Josh, first year Mechanical Engineering

“I don’t like seeing it but it doesn’t massively annoy me. It’s just what people do.”

Ollie, second year Finance and Investment Management

“It’s just the stupid thing people do now, isn’t it? It doesn’t majorly bother me but I try not to do it.”

So next time you wake up after a night on the toon with hangover tweets, posts and yaks profusely sweating out of your fingertips, stop.

Take a moment, look into your soul and think about the type of person you want to be. Have a word with yourself and deal with what you drank. Silently.
