Poly pride: Clash of the Titans

Our team leads us to a shameless victory, once again.

Northumbria dominates the Clash of the Titans in the years sporting curtain raiser, winning 29-10.

Amidst streakers, brawls and poly/posh bashing chants, a compelling game of rugby broke out but it was one dominated by the poly at Kingston Park.

A brawl early on left Northumbria a man short after they had a man sent to the sin bin but they would flex their muscle as they would power over the try line twice in the first half to lead 14-3.

Continuing to show their class and exploit the Posh’s ill-discipline they would power over the try-line again after the restart for a third time.

The posh would continue to crumble as they gifted Northumbria a penalty-try on the hour mark which took the lead to 29-10 and killed the contest.

Tempers got to boiling point however as the game reached its climax, after a Poly streaker interfered with play as Newcastle broke down the side-lines.

It wouldn’t be Clash of the Titans without a streaker.

In a shameless act of violence the Posh players would proceed to stamp the streaker whilst he lay on the floor as players and members of the crowd would become involved, however calm head would prevail as no-one was seriously hurt.

Rather be a poly than a posh

The win for Northumbria reinforces the dominance they showed last year over Newcastle after winning back the Stan Calvert Cup as they continue to display who is the best sporting university in Newcastle.

This early year triumph is definitely a sign of things to come for the men and women on North Street.
