Tributes paid to Manchester first year Josh Caley

‘We are truly greatful’

Friends and family are paying tribute to Josh Caley after he passed away on New Year’s Eve.

During a night out with his friends, the first year Mathematician went missing and is believed to have drowned after falling into Ramsey Harbour.

Flowers have been placed on the edge of the harbour by friends and family in his memory.

His mother, Joy, is encouraging people in the area to continue their search for her son, as he has not yet been found.

She said: “So many people have been out looking for him and I can’t thank them enough. But we need everybody to keep looking.

“The support we’ve had has been overwhelming and has kept us going. We are truly grateful.”

Josh’s family have travelled to the Isle of Man to help his parents “deal with this unfathomable grief”, and a GoFundMe account has been created so that family from the the Philippines can travel to the island to provide further support.

The remaining money will be used to continue the search for Josh, and then perhaps to fund a university student from the Philippines.

She said: “He was a very shy person but had made friends in sixth form and in Manchester and was coming out of his shell. He had big plans and said he would be successful in life. He entertained thoughts of being an actuary.

“He was never sporty at school but he became so good at swimming he was thinking of joining the university team.

“I think what might have been. He’ll miss so much, he had so much living to do.”

Ramsey Town Commissioners have opened a book of condolences at the town hall. It has been placed in the foyer to enable people to record their memories of Josh and express their sympathy to his family at this sad time.
