Man stabbed near Piccadilly Gardens

He was rushed to hospital after sustaining serious injuries

UPDATE: The stabbing is thought to have happened after an argument broke out between rival drug dealers.

A man was stabbed near Piccadilly Gardens yesterday evening.

He was rushed to hospital after police found him at the scene at around 10.20pm.

He had sustained serious injuries. A police cordon remains in place at the scene.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

Law second year Riana Goldman said: “The whole of the gardens around the wheel was taped off, and around six police officers were on the scene.

“I was surprised to see the scene. You hear about this kind of stuff happening in Manchester, but I’ve never actually seen proof of it as you’re walking home.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman told the MEN: “We were called to the Piccadilly Gardens area at around 10.20pm following a report that a male had been stabbed.

“On arrival officers found a male with serious injuries and he has been taken to hospital for treatment.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
