A UCL student has tested positive for coronavirus

They have not been on campus in the past ten days

UCL has announced that one of its students has tested positive for novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

Despite the unsettling nature of the news it has been stressed that the student does not live in UCL halls and has not been on campus for the past 10 days as they have self-isolated at home.

UCL urges its members to respect the privacy of the student and their family and friends while reassuring the public that there is no cause for panic as the situation is being closely monitored.

In an email, UCL stated: “I am writing to let you know that we found out earlier this evening that one of our students has tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19).

“UCL’s immediate priority is to support our student, as well as their family and friends. The student has not been on campus in the last 10 days and has self isolated at home.”

A spokesperson for UCL told The London Tab: “UCL is in regular contact with Public Health England (PHE) and it is our policy to follow their advice, together with guidance from the NHS and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO).”

They directed students to their official coronavirus update page, because “the situation is changing rapidly, we are referring all staff and students to this page for accurate and updated advice about the coronavirus and UCL’s response. We will update this page regularly with more information as it become available.”
