Trains from Leeds are currently suspended

Northern has advised against all rail travel throughout Yorkshire

Almost all scheduled trains from Leeds station are suspended after a signalling system between Leeds and York was struck by lightning during an extreme storm.

Northern has advised passengers to avoid all travel in the Yorkshire area, with the only available routes currently available across the county are from Sheffield to Lincoln, Sheffield to Manchester, and Hull to Scarborough.

Passengers are taking to Twitter to express their frustration that '99% of trains' have either been delayed or completely cancelled since 9:11 this morning, with these disruptions expected to continue until 15.30 at least.

In response to the growing 'chaos', some rail routes have been replaced with coaches, and many ticket restrictions have been lifted, with ticket holders having the option to travel tomorrow instead.
