BMOCs: Meet your Brand Managers on Campus

Bet they get so many freebies

You probably recognise their names from the endless promoting they’ve been doing, whether it be on Facebook or on campus – but that just means they’re doing their jobs right.

Always seen handing out free merch and inviting you to fab events on Facebook, we wanted to get to know a bit more about the faces behind the brands.

Let’s see what Leeds’ BMOCs have to say for themselves.

Victoria’s Secret – PINK: Emma Tackoor, Emi Giles, Lucy Marvin & Emily Metcalf

Year/Course?

Emma: 3rd year, International History & Politics, Emi Giles: 2nd year: International business & Economics, Lucy Marvin: 3rd year, Classical Civilisation, Emily Metcalf: 3rd year, Graphic & Communication Design.

Why did you choose to work for PINK?

Work experience in marketing and events.  We also all love the brand, so being a brand ambassador seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Benefits of the job?

Free clothing and vouchers, meeting new people and organising fun events.

Would you recommend it to another student?

Definitely to any girl who loves PINK – plus it’s rewarding when an event is a success. Also, the bosses are amazing.

Fun fact:

Lucy: “I’m a black belt in Karate, so don’t mess with me!”

Superpower (if you could have one):

Emma: “Teleporting. The only solution to the 5am scramble for taxis outside Beaverworks.”

Guilty pleasure?

Emi: “One Direction – I’ve definitely seen them live before…”

Cath Kidston: Freya Parr

Year/Course?

4th Year, English.

Why did you choose to work for CK?

I love the product and brand values, and it just seemed like something a bit different to do. It’s a smaller, quainter company, which appealed to me!

Benefits of the job?

I’m expecting some CK bluetooth speakers soon because I did a little tea party that won. We also get vouchers and whenever we are sent CK merch to promote or use at events we can keep it.

My kitchen in my uni house now is covered in floral print!

Would you recommend it to another student?

Yes, 100 per cent! I was the guinea pig for this year but it has been a success so I think the brand will be using brand managers in the future.

Fun fact:

I was on First Dates a few weeks ago. LOL.

Superpower (if you could have one):

Bernard’s Watch. I am always late and have a million and one things to do so to stop time would be ideal. You could also do some seriously good creeping.

Guilty pleasure?

Red wine & chocolate buttons.

Bumble: Grace Brecknock

Year/Course?

3rd Year, History of Art.

Why did you choose to work for Bumble?

I want to go into marketing after uni so I thought it would be good experience.

Benefits of the job?

Matchmaking and winning prize money.

Would you recommend it to another student?

Yeah, to anyone!

Fun fact:

Bumble is way better than Tinder.

Superpower (if you could have one):

To be a real life Cupid <3

Guilty pleasure? Touching ribbons…

Boohoo: Lucy Coleman (Her Facebook name is even LUHOO)

Year/Course:

3rd Year, Philosophy, Ethics & Religion.

Why did you choose to work for Boohoo?

I was a brand ambassador last year and loved it. I thought Boohoo would be particularly fun and I was right.

Benefits of the job?

Free garms!

Would you recommend it to another student?

Yes definitely, you have to be organised though – but then the rewards and fun follows.

I’m an identical twin

The power of invisibility.

Why did you choose to work for Propercorn?

They’re an awesome company with a great ethos, plus I LOVE their popcorn!

Benefits of the job?

Popcorn, popcorn, POPCORN!

Would you recommend it to another student?

Definitely! It’s super fun and doesn’t interfere with uni whatsoever.

Fun Fact:

I’ve just got back from my year abroad (livin’ it large) in Rio!

Superpower (if you could have one):

Without a doubt teleportation.

Guilty pleasure?

I’m a Belieber.

Virgin Media: Del Fadipe

Year/Course?

2nd Year Management and Philosophy.

Why did you choose to work for Virgin Media?

When starting my role as the Virgin Media brand ambassador I was clueless as to what I would have to do – however I easily picked it up after a day or two.

The role requires you to sort out any Virgin Media package such as TV, phone and internet to your fellow students at a discounted price. Everyone needs internet, which makes my job a million times easier.

Benefits of the job?

A free expenses trip to the Virgin Media headquarters for initiation (there’s free pizzas involved!)

Discounted Virgin Media services too, plus you make anything between £20-£70 per person that signs up through you.

Would you recommend it to another student?

I definitely would recommend it to anyone who’s looking to make some extra cash while being flexible and having a great time.

Fun fact:

I made over £500 over the course of the last campaign from just working a couple of hours a week. I was able to get two free VIP tickets to V Fest – those aren’t cheap!
