Glasgow student involved in hit and run was caught by her own phone after filming incident
Jamie Leigh McGregor was caught after a video of the collision went viral online
A student from Glasgow who was involved in a hit and run, was caught after the incident was filmed on her own phone.
Jamie Leigh McGregor, 22, hit Christopher Leitch with her hire car in Clydebank in March 2022.
The attack was supposedly because of a issues between McGregor’s boyfriend, James Lang, 32, and two of his former partners.
The collision was filmed by a resident and soon went viral on social media. However, The Glasgow Times reported it would be McGregor’s own phone that would be her downfall.
On 5th February 2022, McGregor collected a Toyota rental car which was fitted with a GPS tracker. This tracker would also put the car at the scene of the attack. Lang was also a passenger in the Toyota during the time of the incident.
The High Court in Glasgow heard how a series of video clips placed McGregor at the scene. Prosecutor Lindsey Dalziel said: “It was clear McGregor and Lang were in the Toyota together.
“Footage later recovered from McGregor’s phone showed a series of clips apparently recorded by accident.”
The court were told how Lang could be heard warning McGregor about the police and how the number plates on the car should be changed.
Miss Dalziel added: “Lang is heard to say: ‘This motor is pure fucked at the front now'”.
McGregor was then seen on CCTV on the night of the incident “interacting” with people in a ground floor flat in Graham Avenue, Clydebank.
A resident then became aware of a “disturbance” and started recording on a mobile phone. They then uploaded it to the internet where it went viral.
In the video, the Toyota begins driving towards Christopher Leitch as he starts pulling blue bins onto the road in an attempt to defend himself but despite his efforts, he is still hit by the car.
Miss Dalziel of the prosecution said: “The white Toyota accelerated at speed in the general direction of Leitch. As it approached him, brake lights were applied. The vehicle turned to the right, struck a blue bin as well as Leitch.
“He jumped out of the way, however, was struck and thrown to the ground.”
The Toyota then fled the scene.
The victim did not require any medical assistance and was uninjured from the attack. McGregor admitted to assaulting Leitch to the danger of his life and could now face a jail-term. However, Lang has pled not guilty.
The judge adjourned the case against McGregor until next month in Edinburgh where she is expected to be sentenced.
