Layers upon layers: Welcome to the first Fashion in the Forum of 2022

Exeter students are entering the new year with serious style

Welcome to our first Fashion in the Forum of 2022. Exams are over and lectures have begun, meaning that outfit effort is at a maximum. We’ve seen some very impressive fits on campus over the last few days and given that Forum is freezing at the moment (-1 library study rooms we’re talking to you), it’s unsurprising that long coats and layering seem to be the trends of the week.

We hope that this edition of Fashion in the Forum provides you with some Winter style inspo and sets your 2022 off right. (Side note – some of these looks were captured at the end of last term, before masks were compulsory).

Oliver, fourth year, English and Spanish @oliverbennion

Where is everything you’re wearing from? My hat is Carhartt, the leather jacket is from a Humana charity store in Barcelona, t-shirt is Doübious, trousers are my dad’s and the Nike 98s are from Depop.

What is your favourite element of the outfit? Probably the tee because I rate the brand.

Favourite brand/place to get clothes? Eott, a mental health community based around music and clothing drops, they do loads for charity and local communities. They’ve also done collabs with people like Keep Hush which is pretty cool.

I also run an Exeter music event and online mix series called The Goodie Room. Check it out @the.goodie.room!

Esmie, third year, English and Classics @esmie.jpg

Where is everything you’re wearing from? My coat is from And Other Stories, turtle neck is from a charity shop, jeans are H&M and my shoes are converse.

What is your favourite element of the outfit? The coat is my favourite item because it’s really warm and goes with anything.

Favourite brand/place to get clothes? I love charity shopping. I’ve been obsessed with charity shops since I was 14 – I was ahead of the trend!

Cal, first year, Psychology @cal_______

Where is everything you’re wearing from? The shoes are a designer collab with Converse that I picked up from a charity shop, along with the hat. The trousers are part of an old suit from ASOS, and credit goes to my dad’s wardrobe for the vintage Ferrari jacket and t-shirt. The vest is a Depop find and the necklace and ring are Vivienne Westwood.

What is your favourite element of the outfit? It’s gotta be the Converse, because they’re extremely versatile and add nicely to every outfit with the orange detailing. Or the Vivienne Westwood necklace, as it was a gift from my parents and I wear it every day.

Favourite brand/place to get clothes? Nothing is better than revamping your wardrobe through second hand clothes – it’s much more sustainable and it feels good to give old pieces a new life. As I’ve started to establish my own income, I’ve moved more towards higher fashion brands like Number (N)ine for clothes, and I’ve got my eye on some gorgeous marble tabis from Margiela (bidding as we speak).

Antonia and Savannah, third year, Politics @antoniagarwing @savannahcoomber

Where is everything you’re wearing from?

Antonia: I’m wearing a Burberry trench found on Depop, Massimo Dutti trousers, Zara t-shirt and Ugg boots.

Savannah: I also have a Burberry trench, Weekday jeans, American vintage jumper and Nike Airforces.

What is your favourite element of the outfit?

Antonia: Defo the Burberry trench, love to unintentionally match with the housemates.

Savannah: Burberry trench as well, because it’s vintage and it was my grandfather’s.

Favourite brand/place to get clothes?

Antonia: Arket or this German brand called Closed, 10/10 jeans.

Savannah: COS.

Aisling, first year, Liberal Arts @aisling.goodenough

Where is everything you’re wearing from? My coat is from TK Maxx and my blouse is Urban Outfitters. I’m wearing Weekday jeans, my shoes are Converse and my bag is from the V&A museum.

What is your favourite element of the outfit? My favourite item is my blouse, it was a gift from one of my closest friends for my birthday and it’s very ‘me’ – she knows me very well! I also love my shoes as they incorporate a more masculine feel into an outfit that otherwise leans more feminine, with the blouse having a large collar and floral print.

Favourite brand/place to get clothes? My favourite shop is probably Mango, as they have such good basics as well as really lovely statement pieces. I also love Depop, along with everyone else! I’ve managed to find such amazing bargains on it.

Jay, third year, Engineering @jmwendz

Where is everything you’re wearing from? I’m wearing a Billionaire Boys Club jumper, my jeans are Zara shoes are Versace Chain Reactions, hat is 59FIFTY.

What is your favourite element of the outfit? The jumper is my favourite piece because my sister bought it for me for my birthday.

Favourite brand/place to get clothes? Zara.

Perdi and Camelia, @perdi_kennedy, @camelia_jd

Where is everything you’re wearing from?

Perdi: My white jeans are from Zara and everything else (including the headband) are vintage or Depop.

Camelia: I’m wearing Zara trousers, a vintage jacket and a Ralph Lauren jumper.

Favourite brand/place to get clothes? We both love Zara, Depop, Urban Outfitters and Subdued.

Doja, second year, Sociology and Criminology @dojamanzo

Where is everything you’re wearing from? My long sleeved top is from Zara, and the tee is a hand-me-down from my mom. The hoodie and jacket are thrifted off eBay, and the trousers are from Motel Rocks. I got the beanie at a vintage store, the tote bag from Rokit in London and the shoes are Love Moschino.

What is your favourite element of the outfit? My favourite item is the Disney Tweety Girl hoodie from eBay. I love how the ends of the sleeves are wool knitted.

Favourite brand/place to get clothes? I don’t have one particular favourite place but I’ve really got into thrifting and buying from charity shops. If I had to pick a mainstream brand it would definitely be Weekday and Zara.

Felix, third year, Politics and IR @felix.richardson

Where is everything you’re wearing from? I bought my jacket from Brick Lane, my trousers are Carhartt. I’m wearing a Uniqlo turtleneck and Doc Martens.

What is your favourite element of the outfit? My favourite part of the outfit is my turtleneck because it’s super versatile and goes with anything.

Favourite brand/place to get clothes? Like a classic Exeter student I love vintage and charity shops. Sobeys on Gandy Street is really good.

Liza, first year, Philosophy and Politics @liza.smirnova5

Where is everything you’re wearing from? My coat is from Mango, the jumper is from a thrift sale held in Forum during Freshers’, the scarf is from a shop in Milan. The skirt was a gift from my brother and then my shoes are Doc Martens.

What is your favourite element of the outfit? My favourite item is my scarf because it reminds me of my parents.

Favourite brand/place to get clothes? Charity shopping is my favourite way to buy clothes. Cancer Research in Exeter is really good because they do £3 sales.

We hope you enjoyed the first Fashion in the Forum of the new year. As always, message us @thetab.exeter to be featured in the next edition!
