Cambridge

Dr Acerini died on Monday while at a meeting in France. His university profile identifies him as a clinical, academic paediatric endocrinologist, having worked on developing Artificial Pancreas systems, the consequences of traumatic brain injury and disorders of sex development.

Girton College members were notified by email from the Girton College Senior Tutor Sandra Fulton, who wrote: "Our first thoughts are with the privacy and wellbeing of his family and friends, and we will then turn our thoughts to marking his remarkable contribution to Girton medicine and to the life of the College community".

Later in the email was a notice to students detailing the support that could be offered, including the UCS and Mrs Fulton herself.

A candle-lit vigil is to be held at 9pm in the Girton College Chapel in remembrance.
