Blind Date: ‘She spilled her drink on herself, then I spilled my drink on her too’
MML student Charley meets Architecture student Tiffany
CHARLEY ON TIFFANY
Hopes/expectations for the evening?
I was fully expecting to be stood up, so when I arrived and she was there (and before me!) I was impressed. I was expecting it to be a bit awkward because the stereotype is that people who sign up for blind dates have no social skills, but it was actually pretty good, and we had a good conversation with not too many awkward moments.
First impressions of Tiffany in three words?
Short, well-dressed, giggly.
Highlight of the night:
We shared chips (thanks!) and got chocolate puddings from Sainsbury’s.
Awkward moments?
She spilled her drink on herself, then I spilled my drink on her too. She dipped her chips in ketchup and I dipped mine in mayo, so that’s a pretty classic incompatibility (or is it a case of opposites attracting?).
Any interesting things in common?
We both like Studio Ghibli films and Arcsoc nights. She has a funky fashion sense, which I thought was very cool! We bonded over degree stress and not having enough time. We both like chocolate brownies to be on the gooey side, and warm. We both are fans of cats and dogs (but she likes dogs more, and I like cats). Both of us had brought bags with animal pictures on (this makes us sound really lame, I promise we’re cool people).
What do you think she made of you?
Probably that I was very serious, and yawned a lot. I didn’t sleep the night before so I was exhausted.
Is there anything you would change about the night:
We should have got two portions of chips.
Would you like to see each other again?
Probably not, but I’m sure we’ll bump into each other on nights out!
TIFFANY ON CHARLEY
Hopes/expectations for the evening?
Expecting to have fun and meet someone new and interesting. Desperately hoped not to be a disappointment.
First impressions of Charley in three words?
Friendly, quirky, interesting.
Highlight of the night:
Having easy and fun conversation all the way through, sharing some chips and cute cat pictures, ending the night with an impromptu trip to Mainsbury’s. She walked me to the bus stop with her bike so that was really sweet.
Awkward moments?
Spilling my drink over myself, then Charley knocking her drink over me as well. Me actually thinking going to Mainsbury’s is a good idea. Running into a friend in town.
Any interesting things in common?
Love for cats but that’s not particularly surprising. Always nice to have someone to go on a chips/drinks discourse with me, although we can both settle on curly fries.
What do you think she made of you?
A weird child who doesn’t know what she’s doing (which would be fair assessment).
Is there anything you would change about the night:
I had a lot of fun I wished it wouldn’t end!
Would you like to see each other again?
Definitely if she wanted to.
