The sun in Birmingham right now looks like the end of the world, and here’s why

Here’s why the sun looks so strange

Anyone on their way to lectures this morning will have noticed the apocalyptic sepia hue the sun is casting across Birmingham today.

Thankfully, it's a result of a plume of dust from the Sahara passing over the sun, and not a sign of the end times.

These conditions are linked to hurricane Ophelia, and some of the particles could also be a result of forest fires in Portugal.
