Why did this fresher only wear fancy dress a whole month?

She’s hoping to raise £400

It’s the craze sweeping Aber, and now this fresher is wearing fancy dress throughout February to raise money for cancer charities.

Emma Beenham has ditched her clothes in favour of getting dolled up in different costumes for every single day this month.

From a Rubix cube costume to 101 Dalmatians, this Geography fresher has gone all out – already raising £270 for two different cancer charities.

She told The Tab: “The Rubik’s cube has definitely been my favourite outfit so far.

“I wore it on a night out and everyone loved it. I had so many people stopping me and asking for photos.”

On her bedroom wall is a detailed plan of what fancy dress to wear on what day: “It’s because I have to arrange outfits around my dance rehearsals.

“I couldn’t turn up in a Rubik’s cube because I just wouldn’t be able to dance in it.

“On the day’s where I’m just in the house, I’ve done a bit less – last time I just put on a snowman onesie.

“It’s still fancy dress but it means I can save the good outfits for the days where I’m out or on campus.”

Where’s Wally?

Emma has been gathering some funny looks, but her dalmatian costume left a lasting impression on her legs.

She added: “I drew the spots on in eyeliner, which was stupid, and I couldn’t get them off.

“I was scrubbing in the shower for about an hour and they still stayed.

“I’m raising for CoppaFeel!, a breast cancer awareness charity, and CLIC Sargent, a charity that provides support for young people with cancer.

“They’re both charities close to my heart. I’ve had close friends and family members affected by cancer, so it’s very personal to me.

I’ve had a lot of recent support from the university, especially the staff in the sports centre and the arts centre helping advertise my fundraising.”

Support from the sports centre

On the last day of her challenge, this Saturday, Emma will be doing a five mile run around campus in “a good costume” – but we’ll have to wait to see what it is.

Emma’s accepting donations on her donation page for Coppafeel and another for CLIC Sargent.
