HYROX shares new grovelling apology offering refunds as athletes threaten to drop out next event

HYROX has shared another statement following the ongoing poop scandal, as it’s been claimed athletes are dropping out of its next event.

This week, the world of HYROX competitions has been overshadowed by Joanna Wietrzyk, who won the course in Beijing, despite having soiled herself. After this HYROX apologised, and implemented new rules and regulations.

However, athletes still weren’t happy. One male athlete who had been at the event spoke about the experience, and said those who competed are owed compensation for the fees they paid to take part. 

Now, HYROX China has confirmed those who took part at the event will be offered refunds. Well, with one catch. All athletes who were still racing between 2:40pm and 8:40pm will be eligible for full refunds.

In a message sent to competitors, HYROX China said: “Dear HYROX Athlete, First and foremost, regarding the afternoon race at the HYROX Beijing event on 12 September, when the on-site incident occurred, we failed to promptly remove the involved athlete from the track.

“We sincerely apologise that this operational oversight meant we were unable to provide you with the race experience you deserved. Following the incident, our on-site team completed the sanitisation procedures and full turf replacement.

“We understand our sport cannot thrive without the support of all athletes. We deeply cherish this support and will take concrete steps to reciprocate your trust.”

It was added that a “thorough internal procedural review” will take place, and that a “full refund” will be available for athletes who took part.

According to Global Times, this has come after multiple Chinese fitness enthusiasts who had applied to the next HYROX events in Shanghai and Sanya, had decided to pull out from the races after the belated response from the brand.
