The creepy final conversations Bryan Kohberger had with his family before being arrested

A family member has revealed the final conversations they had with Bryan Kohberger, before he was arrested for the murders of four students in Idaho.

In November 2022, four college students were brutally murdered in their university home. They had been out partying, and returned in the early hours of the morning on November 13th. A little after 4am, four of the housemates were stabbed by a man who had entered the property.

When police arrived at the scene, on King Road, they found Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle had all been killed.

At the time, Mel Kohberger was preparing to start a new job as a mental health therapist in New Jersey. Her brother, Bryan Kohberger, had not yet been arrested, and the police had no suspects.

Speaking to The New York Times, she has shared the last conversations she had with her brother, prior to his arrest. “Bryan, you are running outside and this psycho killer is on the loose,” she remembers she told him. “Be careful.” He then thanked her for checking on him, and assured her that he would stay safe.

In December, she then got a call from her sister Amanda, who informed her police had stormed into the house, and placed their brother in handcuffs.

Mel told The New York Times: “She [Amanda] was like, ‘I’m with the FBI, Bryan’s been arrested.’ I was like, ‘For what?’” Her sister responded: “The Idaho murders.” She thought it had been a prank.

“I have always been a person who has spoken up for what was right,” she said. “If I ever had a reason to believe my brother did anything, I would have turned him in.”

In the days before the police raid, Mel recalled how the family had gathered together for Christmas. She remembered being happy to see her brother back home in Pennsylvania, and she had hugged him tightly.

During those days at home, she recalled Bryan Kohberger only briefly mentioning the Idaho murders case, when he said that investigators were still hunting for the killer. Unknown to the family, at this point authorities had already identified him as a suspect, and were surveilling the house.

Mel told the publication that since her brother’s arrest, the family has still tried to support him. They call him regularly, and avoid discussions about the details of the case.

Mel said instead, she has kept him informed about life back home, and noted her brother will sometimes talk about his latest interests in psychology. He has an interest in the Myers-Briggs personality assessment and the “bicameral mind” theory, in which the two sides of ancient human brains operated independently. For his birthday, Bryan Kohberger requested his family bake a cake, and Mel be the one to blow out the candles for him.

In a recent update, Bryan Kohberger has now taken back his previous guilty plea, and wants to go to trial.
