With only one episode of House of the Dragon season three left, you might already be experiencing Westeros withdrawal symptoms. After all the dragons, dramatic plot twists and painfully tense family feuds, it’s hard to accept that another season is almost over.
Luckily, saying goodbye to Westeros doesn’t have to happen just yet. Some of the most iconic filming locations from season three are actually right here in the UK, and many can be visited in real life. From dramatic castles to stunning landscapes, these are the House of the most iconic Dragon locations you can actually visit for yourself.
Eldon Hill, the Peak District becomes the Stepstones

Any student studying in Sheffield, Nottingham or Derby will have likely already visited the Peak District as a first year bonding outing, but it’s worth another trip for the House of the Dragon fans.
Viewers will recognise the abandoned quarry as the location for the mysterious caves and treacherous terrain that hosted Prince Daemon Targaryen’s Stepstones War in Season One.

However, in Season Three, the hill was used as the outskirts of the Dragonpit during Helaena’s troubled dreams in Episode Seven. Don’t stand too close when you visit…
Cave Dale, Derbyshire or the Vale of Arryn?

Cave Dale is already an iconic filming location for the Game of Thrones universe. Some of the most memorable moments of the show were filmed here. I don’t think I’ll ever recover from watching the Vale’s enemies be pushed through the terrifying moon door.
House of the Dragon season three has of course used this location again, most notably appearing when Lady Jeyne Arryn reluctantly hosts Rhaena Targaryen and her young children in Episode four. Make sure you really trust the friends you visit here with – no one wants to be pushed through a moon door…
Capel Curig, Eyri (Snowdonia) hosts Rhaena Targaryen and the dragon Sheepstealer

It’s easy to imagine Rhaena Targaryen taming the wild dragon Sheepstealer during episode seven in the mountainous village of Capel Curig. This picturesque village makes a perfect day trip, with many cafes, pubs, shops and beautiful mountainous walks.
And you might be able to find your very own dragon! Unfortunately, their cave scene wasn’t filmed here – that was built in a set in Watford. Booo.
Dinorwig Quarry, Eryi (Snowdonia) as Harrenhal

Dinorwig Quarry is also no stranger to House of the Dragon filming. Previously, the location has been used to shoot elements of Dragonstone. However, in season three, the quarry was transformed to become the iconic Cursed Castle of Harrenhal.
You can see scenes from inside the main halls filmed here, as well as exterior shots and large battle aftermath scenes. It was already pretty spooky before House of the Dragon visited, but is definitely even more eerie now. Halloween outing, anyone?
The Battle of the Gullet overtakes Llanddwyn Beach, Anglesey

Even if you’ve only watched one minute of House of the Dragon season three, you’ll have seen but maybe not recognised Llanddwyn Beach as a filming location. Kicking off the action for the entire season in episode one, this beautiful landscape provides the backdrop for Driftmark, the ancestral seat of House Velaryon, and its Triarchy invasion.
Showrunner Ryan Condal described these battle scenes as “probably the most complex sequence that’s ever been done for television”. They involved hundreds of extras, combat on land, in the air with dragons and at sea, and days of recording. Hopefully it’s calmed down by the time you visit.
Whether you’re team black or green, these iconic filming locations will make a great summer outing to pass the time until the next season. Warner Brothers, we’re waiting…
