Zoella’s resurfaced comments about quitting YouTube could explain why she’s skipped Vlogust

For months, people have been wondering where Zoella has gone. Zoe Sugg and Alfie Deyes haven’t posted properly on social media since wrapping up Vlogmas at the end of last year, and with August now here, another fan-favourite tradition appears to have disappeared too.

The couple’s online hiatus has now stretched to almost seven months, with Zoe still yet to explain why she suddenly stopped uploading to Instagram and YouTube after December.

For the past three years, Zoe has made Vlogust a yearly tradition.The August vlog series became the summer equivalent of Vlogmas, with people looking forward to a new upload every day throughout the month.

But now August is well underway, there’s still no sign of Vlogust returning, suggesting the couple are continuing their extended break from social media.

Interestingly, Zoe and Alfie actually spoke about the idea of leaving YouTube during Vlogmas last December, and looking back, the conversation feels surprisingly telling.

“We need to end on a high, you know,” Zoe said. “There was even a part of me that was like, we can’t do Vlogmas again.”

Alfie admitted they had seriously considered skipping it altogether, adding: “We nearly didn’t do this Vlogmas, like, so nearly.”

Zoe went on to explain why she didn’t want to keep creating content simply for the sake of it.

“We just need to end it while everyone still loves it,” she said. “We can’t end it when there’s only five people watching and we’re dragging it on.”

Alfie compared the decision to ending a relationship, saying: “When we decide to stop, it’ll be like a one-sided breakup, ’cause we’ll be deciding to stop.”

Zoe then confessed she’d already questioned whether she’d stayed on YouTube for too long.

“Sometimes I think I should’ve already stopped. I feel like a dinosaur, but I still love it.”

Alfie’s response was simple: “As soon as you stop loving it, it’s time to stop.”

While neither Zoe nor Alfie has confirmed they’re leaving YouTube for good, those comments have inevitably resurfaced as people continue to wonder whether this break is temporary or something more permanent.

The only real update on what they’ve been doing came back in June, when planning documents revealed the pair had submitted plans to turn a five-acre plot of land into a donkey sanctuary. While the couple have stayed silent online, it looks like life behind the scenes has been anything but quiet.

Whether Vlogust is gone for good, though, is still anyone’s guess.
