Resurfaced interview shows Ariana Grande spoke about going on this break months ago
She called her tour ‘one last hurrah’
A resurfaced interview has shown that the recent announcement of Ariana Grande going on a break shouldn’t have been that much of a surprise. She actually spoke about stepping away from the spotlight months ago.
This week, following backlash regarding the music video for petal, Ariana Grande’s team announced she would be taking a break. “Ariana will be taking a step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour,” her rep told PEOPLE.
“She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny.”
They continued: “This tour has been a beautiful experience for her. She loves her fans and has loved every minute of this tour so much.”
However, Ariana Grande told us this break would be happening, a long time ago. Eight months ago, Ariana appeared as a guest on Amy Poehler’s podcast, Good Hang with Amy Poehler. During their chat, she opened up about a hiatus around the time of the Eternal Sunshine tour, which she is currently on.

“I don’t want to say any definitive things,” Ariana said. “I do know that I’m very excited to do this small tour, but I think it might not happen again for a long, long, long time. So, I’m going to give it my all, and it’s going to be beautiful. I’m so grateful. I think that’s why I’m doing it, because I’m like, one last hurrah. For now.”
Ariana has since spoken herself about her reasoning for taking a break. As this interview showed, Ariana said the break was always planned, and wasn’t anything to do with recent scrunity.
“The announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing. It was something that I have decided. A plan that I had quietly made a long time ago. It was a decision that was made from a thoughtful and empowered place,” she said at her concert last night.
“I heard that my fans were worried that negativity was ruining things for me, but I just have to say that could not be more the far opposite. This is not what that is. And I just want to be very, very clear: Multiple things can be true at the same time.
“Boundaries need to be set, human beings can need a break sometimes and also, this can be and will continue to be the greatest experience of my professional and creative life.”
