‘I ran to my dad’: One of the local kids gave evidence at Susan Lorincz’s trial and it’s harrowing
My heart hurts for these children
One of the local kids gave evidence at the trial of Susan Lorincz, and described the moment they witnessed her kill neighbour, Ajike Owens. The death of Ajike “AJ” Owens is currently being told once again, as people watch new Netflix film, The Perfect Neighbor.
Ajike Owens was shot and killed by a single bullet that Lorincz had fired, through her closed and bolted front door. This came after months and months of issues, stemming from Lorincz’s hatred for the local children. She claimed children in the neighbourhood were “trespassing” on her land, when they were outside playing together.
After one incident, Susan Lorincz shot Ajike Owens. Owens had been approaching the house Lorincz lived at, to ask her what had happened after it was alleged Lorincz had thrown a roller skate at one of her sons. Lorincz was later found guilty of manslaughter, and is currently serving 25 years in prison.

One of the local kids gave evidence in court
13-year-old Ariel Bias-Rodriguez bravely took the stand to give his testimony about what he witnessed during the fatal shooting between Susan Lorincz and Ajike Owens. He described hearing a gunshot, before one of AJ’s children screamed for someone to call 911. Ariel then ran to his dad to tell him what had happened.
Ariel was asked if he remembered the night Ajike was killed, and he replied: “Yes”. He said he remembered all the local kids being told to “get of my property” by Susan Lorincz. He later recalled seeing Ajike approach Susan Lorincz’s house, and said he heard Ajike cursing.

“I was beside my house when it [the shooting] happened,” Ariel explained. He clarified that from where he was, he was able to see both Ajike Owens, and Susan Lorincz’s front door. “I remember her [Ajike] banging on the door,” he told the court. “She was banging pretty hard. I remember her saying, ‘Open up the door’. She was saying the b-word and the f-word.”
Susan Lorincz had claimed she feared Ajike was trying to get into her house, and had threatened to kill her. However, Ariel said he didn’t see Ajike reach for the door handle, neither did he hear her threatening Lorincz’s life.
“After she was banging on the door I remember hearing a gunshot,” Ariel continued. He then said he saw Isaac, one of Ajike’s children, running and yelling for someone to call 911. “I ran to my dad,” Ariel said.
