Police investigating after Bar 256 bouncers caught in violent brawl outside venue

Footage shows one bouncer appearing to throw a barricade at one man

Bouncers at popular Manchester bar 256 were caught in a huge brawl with a group of men outside the venue last month.

In footage obtained by The Manchester Tab, several members of door staff appear to swap punches with a group of six men on Tuesday 23rd September.

Although the video does not show how the fight started, students queuing to enter the bar witnessed the incident as it unfolded.

Alleging them to be “known gang members”, a spokesperson for 256 confirmed to The Manchester Tab the group were non-students and had been turned away at the back of the queue. They said: “Upon being denied entry at our main entrance, since we are a student-only venue, the group violently attacked members of our security team and attempted to force entry to the premises.”

Management also said the group made threats to “shut down the venue” and confirmed to The Manchester Tab that the police are investigating the incident after three door staff sustained injuries.

The footage shows staff in high swapping punches with the unknown group of men, with one bouncer using a barricade at one point to deter the group. In the video, a staff member appears to throw the barricade, hitting one man and knocking him off his feet.

Another member of door staff is also seen struggling with a man sat on the ground, seemingly holding him near his shoulders. A second member of door staff then walks towards the seated man and appears to kick him in the shoulder and head.

The unknown man starts to get up whilst still being held by a bouncer, before seemingly being punched by a second bouncer. He then breaks free from their grasp and can be seen walking at an angle, before he is punched by a third staff member in a yellow high-vis, falling backwards to the floor.

Both door staff and the group of men can be seen holding fists up at each other throughout the incident, as the camera pans to show a group of men gathered in a group.

Students witnessing the incident can be heard screaming and repeatedly saying “Oh, f**k” as the violence unfolded.

A spokesperson for 256 told The Manchester Tab: “As a result of the attack, three members of our door staff sustained injuries. The police were informed immediately and pursued the individuals involved. We have also provided the full CCTV footage to Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to assist in identifying and apprehending the offenders.

“Throughout the incident, our security team acted lawfully, proportionately, and with professionalism to protect members of the public who were queuing to enter the venue.”
