A MAFS UK icon has debunked the ‘contract’ rumours about when cast members leave

Time to abandon the conspiracy theories

You know no matter how much people love Married at First Sight UK there’s a big corner of MAFS fans gagging to prove the show is staged. Especially in those instances where couples stay together for ages and ages and people watching at home wonder why on earth they bother to keep putting themselves through it. This has led to a lot of rumours the show’s cast are contractually obligated to stay on the show for ages by producers – but now an absolute MAFS UK icon from a previous season has debunked the ‘contract’ brides and grooms have been accused of bing under and that’s why they don’t leave the show early.

Erica Roberts, who was on the show in 2023, has been doing a Q&A for MAFS UK on TikTok – and she debunked this rumour and explained how it actually is when people want to leave the process.

In a video discussing compensation MAFS UK cast get when they’re filming the show (capped at £3K depending on what you’re losing from monthly earnings, by the way), Erica debunked the rumour that cast members were under a MAFS UK contract that meant they couldn’t leave the show.

Erica explains “When it comes to reunions, we do get paid to go to the reunion. Not everyone’s invited to come to the reunion. You’re also not contracted to anything, to be honest, throughout the whole process. You are not in a strict contract to be like ‘you have to stay throughout this process for this long’ blah, blah, blah. ‘You must come to reunions’ – none of that is in a contract.

“If you’re asked to go to the reunion and you don’t want to go to the reunion, you don’t need to go. If you were two weeks into the experience and thought f*ck this – I need out of this circus. You can leave. Yes they will try and convince you to stay and persuade you and whatever but essentially you can leave whenever you want to leave that process.

“One of the things that makes me laugh is when people come off reality TV and then they break up and people are like ‘it’s because their contract ended, their three month contract was over’. That’s not a thing. None of us are contracted to be with each other no matter what reality TV show you go on.”

Great news for Grace then, who we saw last night in MAFS UK 2025 try very hard to stop going through with it – and we saw a MAFS UK producer convince her to carry on. But there isn’t a MAFS UK contract dictating when you leave, so that rumour can join the debunked pile.
