It’s a laugh, isn’t it! But something more insidious lurked inside the pop star ambitions, and that weird haunting piece of pop culture is the mystifying song Sneakernight. Have you ever heard Sneakernight by Vanessa Hudgens? You would be forgiven for not having done so, as it was by all intents and purposes a massive flop. But thanks to the power of TikTok, Vanessa Hudgens’ opus Sneakernight is having a second chance at life – and anyone remotely interested in music is developing a morbid fascination with one of the strangest and worst songs ever put to ear.

Sneakernight comes from the second album by Vanessa Hudgens, and it’s the only single from it. From the opening second, it is weird. It is a bizarre jazz fusion, where Vanessa begs us to put our, erm, sneakers on! Why do we need to do this? Because my darling – we are going dancing. All night long! Heels of course would not do.

People on TikTok have made Sneakernight go viral, although that vitality is not really translating into streams. Because the song is bad, of course – but it’s so funny. The memes are endless because the song is just… mystifying. It sounds like it wants to get us moving and growing, but everything about its aura is accidentally threatening and spooky sounding.
