Introducing your Sheffield BNOC for 2025… University of Sheffield’s Jonny Welfare!
We started with 11 nominees and hundreds of votes have since been cast across three rounds.
Now, of the final four, second year zoology student Jonny has secured victory with an impressive 45 per cent of the vote. He was closely followed in second place by Ski Mikey.

Asked for his message to the people who voted for him, he modestly said: “Thanks I guess, didn’t really want or expect to win, but I’m impressed and slightly concerned that you’ve managed it.”
Jonny’s ideal night out is at the pub (“you can’t beat a good Spoons night”) and he is part of societies such as Handball and the Animal and Plant Sciences Society.
Of his plans to celebrate, he added: “I’ll probably celebrate by growing a beard and moving to a university where I’m not supposedly the most well known person.”
Congratulations to Jonny! And commiserations to our other contenders.
The Sheffield BNOC competition will return in spring 2026…
