Expert reveals the real reason Nicole Kidman is wearing wigs now
It’s more common than you think
So, if you’ve been glued to the Cannes 2025 red carpet coverage, you might have noticed something looked a little… off with Nicole Kidman’s hair this year. From a slightly off-centre hairpiece to a glimpse of a mesh wig cap under her strawberry blonde locks, people were left wondering: Was this a style slip, or something more?
After all, Nicole is known for her flawless red carpet looks. So what’s really going on?
Was Nicole Kidman wearing a wig?
Yep, she was, and not just for her film roles. Nicole has worn wigs for years on set, but now, it seems she’s bringing them into her off-screen style as well. At the Women in Motion Awards and Cannes Presidential Dinner, she wore a weave for volume, but the wig cap peeked through, and people quickly picked up on it.
Earlier the same day, viewers spotted that her hairline didn’t quite match the rest of her hairdo during another appearance in a sleek all-black look.
Social media lit up with speculation. But hair experts say there’s really nothing scandalous going on.
So, why the switch to wigs?
According to top celebrity stylist Adem Oygur, it’s all about protection, not hiding. “Years of bleaching, colouring and heat styling take a toll, even for someone with access to the best products in the world,” he told the Daily Mail. “Wigs let stars like Nicole still look glam without causing more damage.”

Zoe Adams, a stylist at Taylor Taylor London, added that events like Cannes can be brutal on real hair. “Between humidity, long hours and bright lights, even the best styles fall flat. Wigs are weather-proof, they hold up perfectly from start to finish.”
So really, it’s a smart move.
Well, is there any other reason?

Yes. While styling damage is part of it, age and hormones also play a big role. Hair naturally thins as we get older, and menopause can cause dryness and breakage. At 57, Nicole is simply facing what millions of women do, and choosing a practical, empowering way to deal with it.
“Wigs aren’t just for the movies or red carpets anymore,” said Adem. “They’re for everyday life, too, and they give women control and confidence when their natural hair might not.”
So no, she’s not hiding anything. She’s just being smart, stylish, and totally in control. Queen behaviour!
