Here’s the real reason Beyoncé removed the iconic Las Vegas Sphere from tour visuals

‘I can tell the CGI was so rushed’

Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour is of course doing the rounds and has snagged attention for more reason than one. It’s her first tour since the Renaissance World Tour wrapped up in October 2023 and she’s even bringing out two of her children, Blue Ivy and Rumi. But it’s actually a big change to her visual effects display which has got people talking, as people noticed some differences halfway through her tour.

In an LA concert last week during the first leg of her tour, Beyoncé used a video of herself on the big screen where a giant version of herself appears to stride through the Las Vegas skyline and pick up the Las Vegas Sphere. The iconic venue only opened in 2023 and is recognised for its pretty distinct design.

But since that show, Page Six revealed how the singer received a strongly worded cease and desist letter in which demanded visuals of the Sphere to be removed from the set.

A lawyer representing Dolan’s Sphere Entertainment Group accused the firm of featuring and manipulating imagery of the Sphere without permission, giving the singer and her team until Monday 5th May (today) to halt the use of its imagery in her videos.

The Sphere has since been replaced in her clip with imagery of Allegiant Stadium, the venue where she’s actually playing the concert in Sin City.

And according to the Sphere’s legal representative, the company “reserves all rights to take further action as SEG deems appropriate without notice” if Beyoncé doesn’t comply.

Since the letter, multiple concert attendees have pointed out how the CGI isn’t as smooth as in the original clips, with the tight turn around most likely making it difficult for the Sphere to be swapped out for the Allegiant Stadium.

One person who noticed the change joked: “Beyoncé got on her MacBook and changed the Sphere to the Allegiant Stadium herself.”

In some scenes, the Sphere has been removed entirely and has not been replaced with the Allegiant Stadium, including when Beyoncé bends down in the clip to pick up the venue. In other clips, her red glove which was used to cradle the Sphere instead holds and taps the Allegiant Stadium, before the giant Beyoncé spins round and the dance sequence begins.
