Beyoncé, Gaga, Katy: Three legends are touring, but their successes are polar opposite

A queen, an icon and a disaster

Right now, three of the biggest names in the history of pop music are touring their latest albums – Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. These three women have defined the pop music of the last 25 years in their own way, and all three have some of the most devoted fanbases imaginable. All three have headlined the Super Bowl. All three are known for tours with amazing visuals, sell out arenas and big budget. And yet the three of them could not be in more different areas of their career – with Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry all seeing completely different commercial and critical response to their careers and their tour. But how do they all differ? Here’s a rundown of how Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry are faring on tour as the videos become inescapable to anyone with internet access.

Lady Gaga – Viva La Mayhem

Whilst Gaga’s Mayhem Ball doesn’t kick off officially until July, the world has been blessed with some major performances beforehand. Of course, one being Coachella – where Gaga’s headline slot got utter acclaim and then with her Viva La Mayhem show in Mexico.

These shows have had huge acclaim, and really showcase Gaga in a rebirth of what made her such an icon in the first place. There’s been a lot of chat about reheating nachos, but Lady Gaga has proved there’s a reason she made these nachos in the first place.

Both her Coachella set and the Mayhem show in Mexico received adoration from fans and critics alike and proved that when she wants to go for it with a visual and a concept and some bloody amazing pop music, she’s untouchable. Her upcoming Mayhem Ball is completely sold out – including all the extra dates added due to demand. She is in a new prime.

Beyoncé – Cowboy Carter Tour

Every single Beyoncé tour gains acclaim, without question. Her tour supporting Cowboy Carter has been no different, with the tour getting five star reviews and being deemed a worthy successor to her tour for Renaissance – widely hailed as one of the best ever. And yet, something with Beyoncé here is raising doubts.

The tour has sold out only 94% – rare for Bey, when so many normally miss out. The rising costs in ticket prices and the fact that Cowboy Carter wasn’t quite as beloved commercially as some of other releases by her have resulted in people questioning what’s going on with it.

But it’s Beyoncé – she always gives it everything and the tour is clearly incredible. The lack of ticket sales is honestly a reflection of the harrowing era we’re in where paying in the hundreds for general admission is becoming commonplace and people just no longer want to do it. Lucky for anyone who decides to go last minute, though. They might be able to scoop up a bargain.

Katy Perry – Lifetimes Tour

And then here we are, it’s all gone to pot. Katy Perry has had the worst year of her career, and the Lifetimes tour has done nothing to rectify it. You do not have to look very hard to see that her choreography, the staging, the accusations of AI visuals – nothing is going right. Why is that? Well first of all, the album was terrible. Because even when her music hasn’t been up to scratch, Katy Perry always puts on a show. To be fair to her!

And yet, this is the first time she seems truly over it. You can see in her eyes, in my opinion, that the heart isn’t there.

When you compare Katy Perry to her contemporaries like Beyoncé and Lady Gaga who are still pioneering, selling out and getting immense acclaim it’s honestly a shame to see how the mighty have fallen.

It’s fascinating watching three greats like Katy Perry, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga on tour (or about to be) and have completely different responses.
