Exactly how many people Joe Goldberg had already killed – before YOU season five

He’s back – and YOU is finally over. After a very long break (murdering can be tiring), Joe Goldberg is back for a last shot at his old ways in new episodes of YOU. At this point, his main personality trait is that he murders people. So you might have lost count of just how many people Joe Goldberg has killed during the previous four seasons of YOU.

He’s killed all of his victims in such gruesome ways, it’s actually quite a lot to look back on. But here we are. Here’s a recap of just how many people Joe Goldberg has killed – and exactly who they were, and how they met their demise.

How many people did Joe Goldberg kill in season one?

Season one count: Five

Joe’s first onscreen murder was Benji, the ex-boyfriend of Beck. Joe lured Benji into the bookstore, before he hit him over the head and locked him in his infamous glass box. Joe then killed him and burned his body in the woods. Remember Joe kept Benji’s teeth? That was weird.

Next on his hit list was Beck’s best friend, Peach. Joe followed Peach on a jog through Central Park, wearing his trusty cap as disguise, before hitting her over the head with a rock. But Peach finally met her demise at her family home, where Joe shot her and then faked a suicide note.

Technically, first in Joe’s kill count was Elijah. Remember him? No? He was Candice’s ex who she cheated on Joe with. Whilst we don’t see this murder in real time, we found out about it during season one flashback scenes. Joe pushed him off a building, casually.

The next death at the hands of Joe Goldberg hit hard. Joe murdered Ron, the abusive stepdad of his child neighbour, Paco. Reflecting on his own troubled childhood, Joe felt the need to protect Paco and stabbed Ron.

Joe’s final murder in season one was the height of the season. It was of course Beck. She found herself locked in Joe’s glass box. Joe killed Beck, and then pinned the murder on her therapist, Dr Nicky. Brutal.

How many people did Joe Goldberg kill in season two of YOU?

Season two count: Three

Joe actually killed less people in season two…growth! But, his first season two murder haunts me to this very day. Jasper was a loose cannon and tried to kill Joe, but it didn’t end well. After taking a knife to Jasper, Joe cut him up and put him through a mincer. The less said, the better.

Up next was comedian Henderson, who in all honesty deserved everything he got. It was found out that Henderson had been abusing young women, and Joe had to step in. Henderson had a soundproof basement room where he would take his victims and film them, and Joe forced his way into his house to try and tape him confessing to all his crimes. It didn’t exactly go to plan, and Joe ended up pushing Henderson down the stairs. Joe again tried to frame the whole thing as a suicide.

The final death in season two was another flashback, about Joe’s childhood. So technically this was Joe’s first kill, but we didn’t learn about it until late on. We saw him killing the man who abused his mother when he was young. Joe shot him.

What about in season three?

Season three count: Two

Growth again! In season three, Joe Goldberg managed to only kill two people. However, one was his most heartbreaking yet. Despite there being many deaths in the third season, most of those were carried out by Love Quinn.

The first death in season three at the hands of Joe Goldberg was Ryan, Marienne’s ex. Joe was obsessed with Marienne and Ryan basically just got in the way. So, Joe shoved him off a building. But, that wasn’t enough, so Joe stabbed him multiple times. I think that’ll do it, Joe.

And finally, the big twist ending of season three was Joe killed our beloved Love Quinn. Love poisoned Joe after finding out he was obsessed with Marienne and wanted a divorce. However, Joe was one step ahead and injected Love with a lethal dose of the wolfsbane poison she’d been growing in their garden.

He wrote a suicide note from her in which she confessed to all the past murders, and even faked his own death. He left their son Henry with Dante and his partner, and burned the whole house down.

How many people were killed by Joe Goldberg in season four?

Season four count: Eight

Oh Jesus, season four was not good for Joe. When he was in London, he killed Malcom, Simon, Vic, Gemma, Rhys, Hugo, Thomas Lockwood, and Edward. Or shall we say Professor Jonathan Moore did?

Joe spent most of the season trying to find the “Eat The Rich” killer, who was killing rich socialites in London. But, we soon found out Joe was having a psychotic episode, and the murders were actually committed by him. It was all a bit wild.

So, what was the total ahead of season five?

Total (so far without spoilers): 18

Victim names: Benji, Peach, Elijah, Ron, Beck, Jasper, Henderson, his mother’s abuser, Ryan, Love Quinn, Malcom, Simon, Vic, Gemma, Rhys, Hugo, Thomas Lockwood, and Edward.
