Penn Badgley shares the brutal reason he’s ‘really glad’ YOU is over, and it’s very true
I can’t argue with him at all
Penn Badgley, who plays lead character Joe Goldberg, has revealed the reason he’s actually glad to see the back of Netflix series YOU. The fifth and final season of the show has just be released, so after years, it’s time to say goodbye.
YOU has become one of the biggest shows on Netflix, and in turn Joe Goldberg is one of the biggest roles Penn Badgley has had. So, it might come as a bit of shock that he doesn’t seem too sad the role is over. There are no spoilers here, but Penn has hinted at a “killer” end for Joe, and said it will feel like a good conclusion for those of us who love the show.
In an interview with The Guardian, he shared the reason he’s not mad Joe will be no more. Penn reflected on the seven-year role, and how the world has changed since he first started on the show.

“The way this show plays with questions of how we reward bad people, that was a more playful question eight to 10 years ago,” he said. “It’s not as playful a question now, and it comes with way more stakes, and I’m glad we’re not going to be playing with it any longer. And for that reason, I’m really glad it’s ending.”
He added that Joe has become “too likeable” and he has attempted to make people less empathetic with him “at every turn”. It’s true, no matter what his killing ways bring, a lot of seem to love Joe Goldberg.

Speaking of Joe’s ending, *without spoilers*, Penn said: “There are levels to it; it’s not just like: Does he die? Does he go to jail? Is he tortured? Does he live and is he miserable alone? It’s really about how we get there.” He went on to say YOU creators have given the “best resolution” for Joe.
