MAFS Australia’s Paul is actually from France, so here’s the celeb-ridden swanky area he’s from

MAFS’ Paul Antoine might now reside in Perth, Australia, but once upon a time, he was from a remarkably swanky part of Southern France.

Season 12 of MAFS Australia has, well, a lot of non-Austrailians. Billy Belcher originally comes from Sleaford, Lincolnshire, and Beth Kelly is also a Brit hailing from Lancashire in the Northwest of England. But casting people from other countries has always been a priority, according to one producer.

“The show’s success overseas has shown us that viewers love seeing a mix of backgrounds and cultures,” they said.

While the producer’s comments about casting were specifically about British people, the same could also be said of bringing Frenchman Paul on the show.

Where in France is MAFS Australia’s Paul from?

As per the MailOnline, Paul was born in Nice in what is widely considered one of the swankiest areas of the French Riviera.

Though he was born in the major city, Paul grew up in Villefranche-sur-Mer. It’s just 30 minutes from Monaco, and while we don’t know what Paul’s parents do for work, growing up in such a notoriously rich area suggests he was afforded a life of luxury.

Villefranche-sur-Mer is a top tourist destination in the south of France, known for its high end hotels, gourmet restaurants, private beaches, and luxury amenities. Over the years, the area has attracted the likes of Tina Turner, Elton John, Johnny Depp, and Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards.

Paul moved to Australia, specifically Perth, 11 years ago in 2014. He was 19.

It might just be me, but I was shocked to learn of his French origins because his accent isn’t inherently Frenchy, despite that twang being very much present. Nonetheless, he’s continued to employ his French speaking skills for arguably the most French reason: Flirting!

We know he recited his vows to Carina in French, and funnily enough, he did pretty much the same thing during his stint on The Real Love Boat. Teaching fellow contestant Courtney how to kiss in French, Paul expertly wielded his French in a recently unearthed clip.

Unlike Billy who pretty regularly posts UK-centric content on his Instagram, Paul doesn’t seem to get back to France often. In fact, the most French thing I can find on his Insta is a meal at French Accent restaurant in Mount Lawley, Australia, that has since closed.

He’s now a wellness advisor in Perth

In his professional life, Paul now works as a wellness advisor for a company called Sodexo, who, according to its site is, “the global leader in sustainable food and valued experiences at every moment in life: Learn, work, heal and play. We believe in creating a better day for everyone to build a better life for all. Whether you’re looking for key figures or our in-depth mission – this is who we are.”

Specifically, Paul works with mining workers to help “face of our wellness culture, driving and advocating for our wellbeing strategies.”
