Jamie’s shock to Awhina calling it fake: The MAFS cast react to Jacqui and Clint’s ‘PR’ proposal

‘Clint has become her biggest enabler’

MAFS might be over in Australia, but the cast had one more surprise for us in the form of Jacqui Burfoot’s shock engagement to Clint Rice. They weren’t married on the show; in fact, they had abysmal marriages to Lauren Hall and Ryan Donnelly, but nonetheless, Clint put a ring on it at a viewing party earlier this week.

The proposal happened at So Dramatic’s reunion viewing party, where Jacqui, Clint, Billy Belcher, and Dave Hand came together for a night of drinks without their on-screen partners.

“OMG!!!! Clint just proposed to Jacqui at our MAFS Reunion Party in Sydney, and she said YES!!!” So Dramatic revealed in a post. “Clint got down on one knee during our Q&A and popped the question with a stunning custom-made 5.08ct oval diamond solitaire ring set in platinum and 18ct yellow gold from @simoncurwoodjewellers.”

But despite the many (many) TikToks and Instagram posts about the engagement, some have claimed it’s a faked PR stunt.

“There’s a reason things look and feel unnatural when you’re watching their behaviours – even the hug after the proposal is unnatural,” body language expert Scott Taylor said. “It’s because it’s staged. Human connection, when it’s natural, shows and shows as being natural. You’re not seeing the open, non-verbals, you’re not seeing those items.”

Here’s what the rest of the cast had to say.

Ryan had a very sarcastic reaction

Clint

Though some of the cast attended So Dramatic’s viewing party, other cast members, such as Ryan, Jamie, Carina, Awhina, and Tony attended the one put on by Daily Mail Australia. Suffice it to say that Ryan was taken back by the news.

“I am ecstatic, over the moon, true love prevails baby,” he said.

Speaking to reporters later in the night, he also shared: “I just want to say, cheers to the happy couple. It was completely candid, completely unplanned, not a publicity stunt whatever. I’m so happy.”

Carina wished the couple well

Despite the controversy surrounding Clint and Jacqui, Carina wished them the best of luck on what is *definitely* not a PR stunt.

“Obviously Ryan was in the room and he said ‘Oh, I wish them all the best, not a ploy whatsoever.’ Everyone was quite shocked and quite confused but look, as long as they’re happy and they got their happily ever after. They seem so loved up and we wish them all the best,” she said at the event.

Awhina called it fake

Awhina

A body language expert earlier called the proposal a PR stunt, something Ryan and Jacqui have since denied, but Awhina Rutene seems to think there’s some truth to the expert’s position.

“I will be 100 per cent real with you guys; it’s not real on Jacqui’s end,” Awhina told Stav, Abby, and Matt on their breakfast show this week. “You know, we’ve seen Jacqui’s behaviour during the experiment. For someone who is madly in love, she’s got time to post 22 TikToks.”

On Clint’s end, Awhina claimed he would “settle” for anyone – including Jacqui – because he is so “deseperate” for love.

“Jacqui is definitely taking advantage of the situation, and Clint has become her biggest enabler,” Awhina added.

Reasonable to say the news shook the entire cast

A TikTok uploaded by influencer Joshua Fox showed the MAFS Australia season 12 cast reacting to Jacqui and Clint’s shock engagement in real time. Jamie was completely shell shocked by the news, covering her mouth as she showed off the Instagram announcement to the room. Beth Kelly and Teejay Halkias were just as shocked as they looked to their co-stars with wide eyes, and Eliot Donovan chuckled in the corner.

Bless his heart because Tony had no idea what was going on.
