‘A b*tch move’: Creator Mike White is beefing with The White Lotus composer and it’s messy

Apparently, Mike White didn’t know he was leaving

So, if you thought the tension on screen in The White Lotus season three finale was something, just wait. There’s been a bit of a falling out between show creator Mike White and composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer. Mike White is beefing with the composer over his surprise exit. He’s the man behind the viral, award-winning theme tune that’s practically a character in its own right. Now, after working on all three seasons, Tapia de Veer has confirmed he won’t be back for season four.

Well, why’s he leaving?

In an interview with The New York Times, Tapia de Veer said he’s stepping away due to creative differences, claiming that White often pushed back on his ideas and made the collaboration difficult. According to the composer, the tension started early on and continued throughout the seasons.

He suggested that by the third season, things had become strained. “We already had our last fight forever, I think,” he said, claiming White “was just saying no to anything.”

What did Mike White say about this?

Now, during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show yesterday, Mike White responded to those claims. White told Stern he was surprised by the New York Times interview, saying, “I honestly don’t know what happened, except now I’m reading his interviews because he decides to do some PR campaign about him leaving the show.”

He also suggested that Tapia de Veer may not have appreciated receiving creative notes, and added, “I knew he wasn’t a team player and that he wanted to do it his way.”

Reacting to the interview’s timing — which was published just days before the season three finale — White said, “It was kind of a bitch move.”

Despite the drama, season four is happening

While Tapia de Veer won’t be returning, HBO has already confirmed that The White Lotus will be back for season four. Details about the cast or setting are still under wraps, but the series has become one of HBO’s biggest hits.

As for the music? We’ll have to wait and see who takes up the challenge — big shoes to fill, no doubt.
