The reviews for The White Lotus season three finale are here and they’re utterly savage

Forbes called it ‘a crushing disappointment’

The White Lotus season three has been absolutely slammed compared to the first two, even if it still has a fair few supporters. But those supporters are nowhere to be found in these absolutely savage reviews of The White Lotus season three finale, which has obviously ruffled the feathers of critics. Despite the fact that Mike White has lowkey fumed that he’s “edging” us all when he writes a season of The White Lotus and that if we didn’t like it we need to “get out of his bed” – it turns out that bed is actually going to be desolate come nightfall.

Here are some of the most savage reviews of The White Lotus season three, for your reading pleasure and ease.

The Guardian called it ‘the least satisfying ending ever’

Stuart Heritage gave the finale three stars, and said it felt like “The White Lotus by numbers”. He was critical of the way the show feels like it’s slipped into a formula. Whilst saying Belinda was a highlight, Heritage wrote “Might Belinda turn up for season four, just as rich as patronising and oblivious as all the White Lotus guests she has spent years rolling her eyes at? If so, it would be a heel turn for the ages. At the very least, it would go some way to salvaging what has ended up being a frustratingly middling season of television.”

The Independent theorised TWL went ‘awry’ behind the scenes

In another three star review of the finale, Adam White wrote for The Independent that the season was unpleasant and that he’s convinced this year’s season “went a bit awry behind the scenes” after mentioning the cast fallouts.

In a final damning paragraph, Adam White says “When The White Lotus returns it should, for its own sake, go back to basics. White is a master when it comes to interpersonal dynamics and writing about our propensity for cruelty, arrogance and self-involvement. But after these draining eight episodes, he should avoid the mystery trap and stop there.”

‘A crushing disappointment’ – Forbes

In one of the most savage of all the finale reviews of The White Lotus season three, Erik Kain at Forbes is brutal in his takedown of the final where he said three words he’d use are “tragic”, “disappointing” and “indulgent.” OUCH.

“This was the least satisfying, least funny, least shocking, least impressive season of The White Lotus so far. Had it been the first, I’m not sure we’d ever have gotten a second, let alone a third.” Big yikes.

Rolling Stone said it had ‘the world’s dumbest shootout’

But that line aside, Alin Sepinwall condemned it by saying the final was “simultaneously predictable and nonsensical. The finale was followed by clips of White talking about his goals for this season, while also teasing what’s to come with the upcoming fourth season. “There’s always room for more murders in the White Lotus hotels!” he promised. At a certain point, aren’t the TripAdvisor reviews alone going to ruin their business model?”

‘Bottled some storylines’, says The Standard

Vicky Jessop, writing for The Standard, bluntly said The White Lotus season three “ultimately bottled some of its more compelling storylines. Here’s hoping the next season hits harder.”
