What Awhina’s iconic sister Cleo gets up to when she’s not causing chaos on MAFS Australia

Awhina Rutene’s twin sister Cleo made another appearance on MAFS Australia this week, and our lives were much the better for it. When Adrian’s sister and friend all had a go at Awhina and compared her to “trash” and “a turd”, Cleo 100 per cent had her sister’s back. She said: “You are a fantastic mother. You are a beautiful person. You give, give, give, give on a daily basis. You have so much light that you share with everyone and I don’t see any of that light in you today.” What a banging speech.

Cleo is Awhina’s younger twin

Awhina is older by a couple of minutes. They were 30 years old when the show was filmed, and are now 31. Cleo and Awhina seem to super close. They both live in Perth. In an Instagram post, Cleo called Awhina’s son “the most perfect nephew” and joked “since my twin made him technically he’s my son as well”.

She works in car sales

Cleo has two very cute sausage dogs. She’s in a relationship with a finance officer called Neelan. Cleo used to work for Volkswagen, and is now the aftercare manager at a car dealer. She’s a proper petrolhead, and frequently shares pics of fancy cars on her Instagram.

She used to date Paul from MAFS Australia?!

Okay, but MAFS gives me the false impression that Australia is really small, because all the cast members seem to know each other before the show. Cleo actually dated Paul from MAFS Australia 2025 back in 2022. She told Daily Mail Australia: “I met Paul in 2022, shortly after becoming single following an eight-year relationship.  It was an instant spark, and we shared a whirlwind romance for a couple of months.” Cleo says they parted on friendly terms because she wasn’t in the right space for a relationship.

Apparently Awhina knew this and talked about it with Paul and Carina at the first dinner party. But this conversation was cut out of the show.

Cleo is now feuding with a former MAFS Australia bride

This needs some explaining. Sit tight, folks. Remember Bronte from MAFS Australia 2023? Who was infamously matched with Harrison? Well, Bronte was spotted at a beach club with Awhina’s MAFS husband Adrian, among other MAFS grooms. Cleo commented under an Insta post of the pics, “Having done this experience yourself and knowing how emotional this experiment was to then text another bride’s husband the entire time..”, She accused Bronte of messaging Adrian while Awhina was filming MAFS with her.

Bronte then made two TikToks, an Instagram post and went on a podcast to complain this one sentence Cleo wrote. Apparently Bronte really did message Adrian throughout MAFS, but she didn’t like that Cleo talked about it? On 2nd April, Cleo took to Instagram to say it was “embarrassing” for Bronte to keep talking about her.
