Um, it turns out Awhina’s twin sister used to date MAFS Australia groom Paul?!

We’ve only just met new MAFS Australia bride Awhina Rutene and her twin sister Cleo, but it turns out Cleo used to date 2025 groom, Paul! What a huge crossover?! I’m a bit shook.

The show has just started to air in the UK, and we’ve just seen Awhina get married to Adrian. Previous to this, we’d seen new groom Paul get married to Carina. A big character at Awhina’s wedding was her twin sister Cleo, who quite iconically had an awkward conversation with new brother-in-law Adrian, telling him she “didn’t know” if her sister even had any children. Obviously, she just knew it wasn’t her place to be the one to tell him.

But, it turns out she has more of a connection to the show than just being the sister of a bride. She used to date MAFS Australia 2025 groom, Paul! Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Cleo confirmed she and Paul dated back in 2022, shortly after she ended an eight-year relationship.

“I just want to clarify something that’s been brought to light,” she said. “At no point was this hidden, and when Paul first met Awhina at the dinner party, they addressed it openly, with Paul telling his wife, Carina.

“While I don’t feel my past relationship should be up for public discussion, I will comment now that it’s out there. I met Paul in 2022, shortly after becoming single following an eight-year relationship.  It was an instant spark, and we shared a whirlwind romance for a couple of months.”
